Sarah Stanton
Sarah Stanton and her husband, Murray, have lived on their farm in Deary, Idaho for sixteen years. During that time, they have hosted many equestrian events, including Hunter Paces, Hunter Trials, Horse Trials, Poker Rides, and numerous clinics. They also grow an excellent quality grass hay which they bale in small square bales specifically for use with horses -- one of the few remaining hay growers in the area to do so. They also have two young sons, Gray and Olav, (a third is on the way). Sarah is a graduate of Sweet Briar College (Sweet Briar, Virginia) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a “minor” in German; she spent her collegiate Junior year in Vienna, Austria studying piano with instructor Franz Zettl and composition with composer Alexander Blechinger (and taking general courses at the University of Vienna). In addition to “farm chores,” Sarah also maintains a successful music studio specializing in piano and flute performance, a continuation and development of her musical interests and enthusiasm for teaching.
This enthusiasm is also expressed in her involvement with horses. While music was her collegiate academic focus, Sarah took advantage of Sweet Briar College’s unique equestrian facilities and emphasis to pursue her love of riding. While there, she took riding classes under the tutelage of instructors Jill Randles and Paul Cronin aboard “Willie,” her young thoroughbred. This equestrian coursework focused on the training of the green horse according to the methods of Position, Control, and Forward Riding developed by Captain Vladimir Littauer, a philosophy which is the foundation of the Sweet Briar equine program. This developmental framework has had a profound influence on Sarah’s own riding philosophy -- and her teaching.
Sarah enjoys teaching students of all skill levels, in both english and western disciplines, and believes that “Good Horsemanship is Good Horsemanship.” In 2005 she was awarded certification as a Level 1 ARIA (American Riding Instructor Association) instructor in the discipline of Eventing and Recreational riding. She particularly enjoys Eventing for both its competitive aspects and the learning challenges it presents. Sarah is involved with her church as music director and Sunday school teacher. She also participates in various community services and activities and is the President of the Avon Busy Bees, a local women’s organization. Feel free to contact us with any questions: Stanton Farms
